What Is a Pencil Made of?
Traditional pencils, like number 2 Ticonderoga pencils, are usually made of a graphite core surrounded by a wooden exterior. Contrary to popular belief, pencils do not contain lead and never have. Ticonderoga number 2 pencils also feature a high-quality latex-free eraser for easy correcting, making it ideal for learning students and their teachers. Number two pencils are also a popular traditional pencil choice, as they are cost affordable and many brands of number two pencils are packaged already sharpened for immediate use.
What Are the Uses of Pencils?
While pencils are known for being used as a writing utensil, they are also used for drawing and design work. Traditional number 2 pencils and mechanical pencils, like BIC pencils, are ideal for schoolwork, test-taking, and notations as pencil markings can be erased in case of mistakes. Mechanical pencils also tend to feature a cushioned grip, helping hands stay comfortable while writing. Graphite and colored pencils, like Faber Castell and Staedtler pencils, are ideal for sketching, drawing, and calligraphy, allowing their users to create beautiful works of art.
